If your Q1 has gone anything like ours, then you may feel like I do. I feel like I’ve been running a marathon since January 2nd and am already a little burnt out.
Luckily, here at A4H, this is kind of our specialty. Not only do we put in place the processes and procedures for delegating the administrative tasks to our team, but I also specialize in Productivity Coaching, where I spend time 1-2-1 with business owners, partners, or CEOs fighting just that: burnout and overwhelm.
So, I’m going to give you my best tips to help get you back on track and feeling a little more energized to jump into SPRING!
Work Block Your Inbox.
If you are tired of me saying it... then thank you! That means you are reading my blogs and my newsletters. If you aren’t tired of me saying it or need a refresher, check out the best blog I have ever written about this: 6 Tips on Avoiding the Black Hole of Your Inbox and check out my recent YouTube Short: How to Master Your Inbox and Work Blocking.
Still, here is the SKINNY: By constantly switching your activity from one task to another, you will become exhausted because you will constantly feel like you are wasting your time and not getting anything done!
Do one thing a day 10-15 minutes just for you!
Everyone can find 10-15 minutes a day. Make sure that this activity is meditative. Meaning, that you can be in the present, lose track of time, and/or feel completely energized after you do it.
Ideas: Read a book, go on a walk, stare out the window as you drink your favorite beverage, dance to your favorite two songs in your living room, put on a video for yoga stretching on YouTube, play your favorite game on your phone.
It actually doesn't matter what it is, as long as it is for you and helps you not think about anything else.
Take at least one day completely off.
I mean, if God did it, don’t you think we should too? I am an agnostic, still the teaching is pertinent. The most perfect being, who is eternal, all-knowing, and has everlasting light and love, needs a day off each week… that may be a clue that we non-perfect humans need it too.
Make it happen no matter what. Your body, brain, and soul will thank you for it.
Do what you like doing the least for your work when you have the most energy.
Everyone has something they have to do themselves for work that is an energy sucker, an item of procrastination, or something they just don’t love doing. I know I do… it's my time logs, invoicing, and payroll. ~ I know what you are thinking ~ why don’t you delegate that?
The truth is, as much as I don’t like it, it is for my mental well-being. I like knowing where the business is financially and where our costs are going. Even though I don’t like it, it's something I feel good about doing afterward. (I kind of relate it to my circuit weight lifting - 2x a week. Something I don’t like doing, but love the results!)
So, when do I do it? Monday mornings. I have taken the weekend off, my energy is restored, and it is the way that I jumpstart my week. I do it right before my team meeting so I know exactly where the business is when I am addressing my team each week.
Give yourself permission to have FUN!
This is something I have a lot of conversations about with my productivity clients. They feel guilty when they allow themselves to do something fun… like they should have done something more “productive.” Which is actually quite counterproductive.
The truth is, happier people get more things done more effectively, and doing FUN things helps you be happier. Think of it this way. By giving yourself time for fun and play, you are actually energizing yourself to be more productive when it is time to work.
So get out there and do more of what you LOVE!
