Yesterday, I woke up, made myself some coffee, and went outside to grab the mail... you know, the usual morning routine. However, I was in for a rude awakening (literally) when I stepped outside and was met with a chill! I hurried inside, sans mail, to grab a sweatshirt.
Of course, it really wasn’t that cold out; it was just a shock to me after a very hot summer… one that I truthfully never thought would end! But, it was a rude awakening that time continues to move forward.
The onset of the cooler weather was a reminder to me to finish the year out strong. After a long summer, I took the opportunity to reassess my goals and make a plan for achieving them before the end of the year.
Reflect on Your Year So Far:
That morning, I bundled myself up and sat on the porch to reflect on what I’ve accomplished so far this year.
It certainly hasn’t been an easy year, has it? I don’t know about you, but I certainly took some hits, both personally and professionally. It’s crazy to look back and see how far I’ve come… I’m sure, if you reflected on your year, you might feel the same! We’ve overcome so much in the past year. Sometimes, we don’t give ourselves enough credit for just… making it through.
Beyond just surviving, I also made some really big changes and accomplished some big things for my life! Sometimes, it gets lost in the mix of dealing with the chaos that is 2020. But I’m very proud of the progress I’ve made so far this year!
It’s important to recognize where you’re coming from. It’s not as productive to look forward if you never bother to look back. You deserve recognition for all the things you’ve accomplished so far this year! Whether it’s big or small, you’ve done plenty to be proud of already.
Know Where You Want To End Up:
It’s good to know what you want from the year. Where do you want to be at the end of 2020? If you don’t want to be so strict on timelines, where do you want to be at the end of this season of your life? What are you trying to accomplish?
Set goals for yourself! This will help center you as you move forward. Have a vision of what the end-goal will look like at the end of all of this.
Make a Plan:
It can be as detailed, as miniscule, or as broad as you want. But, by giving yourself steps to take, it will make it easier to reach that goal you have set for yourself!
My tip is to not go too small nor too big; you don’t want to get stuck in the weeds by being too obsessive, but you also don’t want to be so vague that you get lost along the way. Give yourself achievable, measurable “mini” goals, so that you can see your own progress.
Aim High!
Like they say... if you shoot for the moon, you’ll only land among the stars!
Be gentle with yourself after a tough year, but don’t let it knock you off of your path. You’ve already done so much this year, and you have plenty more to go! That’s all up to you and what you want your year to look like.
Enjoy the cool weather before it gets too bleak. In this transition from summer to fall, you can really focus on the transitions in your life and figure out what you want to do with that.
